duplo:

Hypothetically:

If your neighbors fight all the time outside your window and one time the girl has a big red mark on her face after a fight that makes you think he’d hit her and then you overheard her screaming about how he had kicked her in the chest, would you call the police?

Alternately:

If you’re in an abusive relationship and there are some neighbors who live behind you who obviously spy on you all the time, and you yell about getting hit by your husband right under their window, aren’t you kind of asking for help?

Am I just justifying being a busybody?

We did call the police.

I’m suprised I don’t hear more crazy stuff like this going on here, with so many people living in close proximity.

When we lived in San Francisco, we were on the 2nd floor of a two story building with a pastor, his wife and young child living below us. Initially we thought that’d be nice, since … yanno, pastors are supposed to be good folks.

A couple weeks in we realized that the walls in the house were quite thin, and that the pastor was being emotionally abusive to his wife and child. They were screaming at each other quite often. We never heard any physical violence, but sometimes it was very difficult to know exactly what to do when things sounded nasty.

It was especially awkward when we’d see them outside the next day, and could tell from the sheepish looks we got, he regretted how he had acted, and knew we could hear.

Glad to be away from that situation. I hope things are better now.
