The Revenger: Episode 1

“One man is left to face an evil organization hell bent on raping the world.”

A (rejected) pilot for Channel 101:NY - learned a lot, had fun shooting it - great cast including Caleb Bark from Olde English and Steve O’Brien from Team Submarine. Shot + lit by the impeccable Jon Rivera of Byte Jacker fame!

If I were a disgustingly rich Russian oligarch...

I would pay the world’s most famous authors enormous amounts of money to write books for me, starring me, about a topic of my choosing. There would be one copy in the world, and I would burn it when I was done.

She told me this morning, she said, ‘grandma, I’m going home, it’s not safe around here,’” said Chastity’s grandmother Tanya Turner. “I said, ‘baby, it’s not safe no place now.’

— Some very intense quotes in this article about a tragic shooting in Chicago. I can’t even comprehend what it’s like to live in these neighborhoods.

Atlantic Yards’ developer Forest City Ratner offered the MTA $200,000 annually over the next two decades to change the name of the second most bustling station in Brooklyn to reflect the focal point of its $4.9-billion project.

$200k a year … doesn’t that kinda seem like a deal? Why can’t we get 28th Street turned into The 28th St Next New Networks stop?

This is great news — after ceasing print publication in 2007, the Weekly World News has made its entire archives available on Google Books. (Check out the above — you can even embed entire issues!)

I loved the Weekly World News when I was a kid. Despite her eyerolls, I’d force my mom to buy it for me at the grocery store and devour it as soon as we got home. I was at a weird age — old enough to get the jokes, but young enough to sustain the belief that maybe, just maybe, some of it might be true. It was only years later, when I saw the headline “Osama and Saddam’s Gay Wedding!” that I realized what hilarious and subversive publication I had been reading all those years. As far as straight-faced satires of news publications go, the Onion has nothing on the Weekly World News — it parodied the tabloids of its era so successfully that it was sold on the rack next to them. The fact that it wasn’t trying to attack or criticize the format, but simply capitalize on its silliest elements, just made it more fun to read. Long live and R.I.P.

So classic. I used to always buy one of these when I was working at a supermarket in high school. Was such a trashy treat - so full of fun and goofy stories. Felt like I was splurging to drop the $2 on it or whatever.

Dear Summer:

While it may work for stars like Ashton Kutchern and Bradley Pitt, being ‘fashionably late’ is not cool for seasons.
