Created yesterday afternoon for the “Flashback to the (?)” Film Fight that’s currently going on. Steve and I brainstormed for like 30 seconds and then I started writing the script. I’m really into the show “Journeyman” right now (R.I.P.), so I kinda wanted to copy their ‘ripple teleport’ effect in this. Watch the HD version.

How the IRS works.

  • Aaron: I'm predicting I'll have to file bankruptcy this year
  • Me: that's not good!
  • Aaron: specifically because of the IRS
  • Me: why ? augh god i hate them
  • Aaron: because I owe them $9000
  • and to pay it I have to apply for their installment plan which gives me three years to pay it off
  • but to pay it off like that I can't save money for estimated payments for 2008, so when 2008 taxes are due and I owe another $9000 + $2000 in late fines for not paying estimated, I'll be in the same boat
  • and you can't apply for the installment plan again
  • so bankruptcy.

Tech-pocalypse

Does anyone else worry that in the event of a utility-wrecking global apocalyptic event (such as a pole-reversal, meteor stike, etc), all the tech skills so painstakingly honed over the years will become immediately and obviously worthless?

I assume that within hours of being stranded in the savage wilderness, I’d eat something poisionous, or be eaten BY something big and mean. My hands, while quite adept at typing tumblr posts, or zipping along a Final Cut Pro timeline, would become quickly-bloodied painful pink nubs in an untamed jungle no matter how intently I watch Tivo’ed episodes of ‘Survivorman.’

The homeless, forced to detox after the infrastructure that powered their habit falls to pieces, would suddenly become like those special forces super-soldiers in movies about ‘Nam. All jumping around and shit, forming powerful gangs and swinging from trees. Who cares if I know how to reinstall Windows, or find the fastest Bittorrents? They can sleep outside and build fires in garbage cans!

It seems at times the pipelines that keep me useful are held by such a fragile mass of cords and wires.

Here’s to keeping us all useful for many years to come.

If this is indeed true, God bless ya. The more and more I read about how utterly fucked everything is here, the more I want the carefree life of non-evil overseers. Tax half my money, if you have to, as long as I know it’s going to help people, not blow them up or line the pockets of the crooked.

I used to think Pat Buchanan was just another idiot conservative puppet like Ann Coulter until I read an article of his a few years ago, where he called out Bush on botching Iraq well before it was acceptable to do so (especially for a non-liberal.) Ever since then, I read his articles occasionally, believing that while I disagree with a lot of his opinions, in the end he values truth over anything else. This is one of those articles.

The state of the media these days is truely a tragic, fear-mongering and sensationalizing one. I wish I experienced a time when this wasn’t the case.
